Burdekin Pipeline

The Burdekin to Moranbah Pipeline was primarily constructed to enable the Queensland coal mining industry to better plan for future expansion. The substantial growth in world demand for Queensland coking coal has led to a number of recent coal mine developments in the Bowen Basin.

McConnell Dowell, working for SunWater, was the main contractor on the project, responsible for the construction of about 270km of pipeline from the Burdekin Falls Dam to Moranbah. Multifix was responsible for the construction of all concrete pump stations as well as associated water-retaining balance tanks and other miscellaneous concrete structures.
